Dr. KAWAMURA Yasuko, a member of the HFJ Executive Committee, presented her research at the Handel International Scholarly Conference on June 1st, 2021.
On June 1st, 2021, Dr. KAWAMURA Yasuko, a member of the HFJ executive committee, presented her research at the Halle Handel International Scholarly Conference 2021 in Germany. Due to the corona disaster, the conference was held via Zoom.
Her presentation was titled “The Acceptance of Messiah in Japan”, and she clarified how Japan has become one of the world's leading lands of Messiah from the perspective of the relationship between the history of Messiah performances and the Japanese acceptance of Christmas culture.
The 25-minute presentation was followed by a Q&A session that lasted almost the same amount of time, with several international Handel scholars asking questions one after another, indicating the high level of international interest in the hitherto unknown history of the reception of Messiah in Japan.
